Art classes at all levels are offered at L.I.C. in its large art studio in drawing, painting, sculpture, and theory as well as portfolio preparation. The work of its students has been shared with the community through such events as Art Expo's at museums and numerous art competitions. The art faculty is very proud to have assisted students gain admission to Cooper Union, RISD, Chicago Design, Pratt Institute, and etc.

Fine Arts Courses
BEGINNERS ART:
STARTING OUT WITH THE BASICS OF COLOR, SHAPE, AND COMPOSITION, THIS FIRST APPROACH TO ART ACQUAINTS ONE WITH THE CONCEPTS BEHIND ANY GREAT WORK OF ART. STUDENTS WILL WORK THROUGH THE PROCESSES OF PENCIL/CHARCOAL DRAWING, PAINTING WITH TEMPRA, WATERCOLOR OR GOUACHE, AND COLLAGE.
INTERMEDIATE ART:
INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS FOLLOW CLOSELY THE WORKS OF THE MASTERS, LEARNING THE EVER-IMPORTANT PRINCIPLES OF PERSPECTIVE. SHADOWING, HIGHLIGHTING, AND THE RESPECTIVE COLOR-USE ARE INVESTIGATED AND LEARNED AT A MORE INTENSE LEVEL. DEPT HIS ADDED TO IMAGES AS STUDENTS EMBARK INTO THE WORLD OF OIL PAINTS.
ADVANCED ART:
THIS CLASS IS INTENDED TO BRING THE FINISHING TOUCHES OF PAINTING/DRAWING CLOSER IN REACH. EXPERIMENTATION WITH ARTISTIC PRINCIPLES AND THINKING IS WELCOMED AS WELL AS CLASS DISCUSSION/ CRITIQUE. (EXCELLENT CLASS FOR COLLEGE PORTFOLIO PREPARATION).
DRAWING:
Principals of drawing are thoroughly covered to help understand the picture as a whole with emphasis on developing hand skills and eye coordination on various forms.
PAINTING:
Emphasis is placed on developing individual expression and style through learning the fundamentals of painting. Color and form, with realistic and abstract approaches are made to enhance the artistic view and qualities. SCULPTURE: Beginning with figure sculpting and the basics of materials, methods and concepts, the class aids in developing artistic views of the human form by expressing abstract and realistic forms.
ART HISTORY:
A survey of paintings, drawings and sculptures from prehistoric time to early 20th century. Emphasis is given on the art in society. Class materials are coordinated with current museum exhibitions.
COLOR THEORY:
Emphasis is made on the dynamic interaction of colors and its implied meanings. Developing personal views on the colors' emotional qualities, harmony and combinations are explored

LIFE DRAWING:
Work with live models to explore the immediacy to the aspects of drawing: the sensed line, the analyzed mass, the nature of pictorial space and the calligraphy of movement.

Ceramic Class
Students will be given the opportunity to experience the tatile nature of clay and will be introduced to a variety of techniques like pinch, slab, modeling and glaze. As well as gaining confidence in working with thier hands to create three-dimensional works.
