T.A.G Program ( Talented And Gifted )

The T.A.G Program (Pre-College - 6 ~ 18 years old ) at The Long Island Conservatory offers a comprehensive music education (classical, jazz, musical) to talented young musicians demonstrating the potential to pursue music as a profession. This program is designed to give students an opportunity to sample the life of a music major in a supportive conservatory environment. Every student should come to the T.A.G Program excited about the prospect of learning music, knowing that serious study requires discipline and training. We expect students to work hard to meet the challenge of developing their individual talents.

MAIN INSTRUMENT :
Individual instructions on the student's major instrument.

SOLFEGE
Solfege is a vital component in the training of a musician. The various activities develop a student's perfecting pitch, and rhythm and performance skills. Students learn to recognize and react to harmonic, melodic and rhythmic structures through recitation and dictation. In advanced levels, students apply aural skills to performance repertoire. Score reading, clef reading and transposition are all covered.

THEORY(Optional):
Covers the basic vocabulary necessary to discuss and analyze music. At more advanced levels, score study is central to the program. Music of various styles and genres, throughout the 20th century is studied through analysis, writing and classroom performance. Discussions of historical periods and composers and live performances serve to enhance the class.

RECITAL (STAGE PERFORMANCE)
This course is designed to explore and study the performance practices. Individual performances are required.
MUSIC HISTORY(Optional):
Students are given the opportunity to review the evolution of music, and discover its roots. The course reviews music from Medieval times to the 20th century, including opera and chamber music.

ORCHESTRA(or CHAMBER)-For Instrument
All students majoring in an orchestral instrument participate in orchestra as assigned. The orchestral literature program offers students a comprehensive performing experience through various periods and genres. Soloists for the concerts are selected through completion.

CHOIR/Opera Workshop/Musical Theatre - For VOCAL
Students who qualify through auditions and those whose schedules permit may participate in ensembles. This is to teach musicians through additional performance opportunitie through a challenging atmosphire.
